Hey everybody!

I was wondering what everyone thought of the current NEPA music scene.  There are some great bands out there currently - Beyond Fallen is a great metal band, K8's a quality singer/songwriter, and we've got a great bluesman in Clarence Spady.  It seems though as if local artists don't get the support they used to.  Remember the groundswell of support The Badlees (gets my vote for best band to ever come out of NEPA) got back in 1995 that led them to their major label record deal?  Sure, Breaking Ben went national, but somehow their rise didn't have the same feeling of a slow and excitement filled build like other NEPA bands such as The Badlees had.  It just didn't seem like it was quite the same level of fan support.

Perhaps I'm leaving out the indie punk movement that's happening locally.  There are a number of indie punk labels with hungry young bands locally that are vying for attention.  What is everyone else's take on the current NEPA music scene?

An Albatross is an amazing Indie Hardcore band right from NEPA, the boys all used to work at the Wyoming Valley Mall and are currently touring across Europe. Not to mention Owens Grudge and Spit Can in the Rock/Metal scene, and fun cover bands like M80

Three must be a lucky number...because 2008 is PocoNotes' third season of bringing good music and good people together. This year, we'll be concentrating on our "Hear 'Em..." series.

The location that we've found for our 2008 shows - in reality, found us. It's the Waverly Community House, which is - from our perspective - just another of Lackawanna County's many hidden gems. Working together with the wonderful people at The Comm, we feel that we can do something very special for the area's residents and visitors. They're already doing so many good things...PocoNotes is just 'putting it to music!' Come out and see us all in action...with the 2008 opening event for our "Hear 'Em at The Comm" series:
April 12: Patrick Sweany...along with the composer/guitarist Billy Rogan opening the show -
June 28: Toby Walker
September 13: Spencer Bohren
November 9: Roy Book Binder
The tickets for these shows our "Hear 'Em..." series. ..for a mere $20 each ($25 at the performance) and are available either through PocoNotes or The Comm. Hurry though, really - only 100 tickets will be be available for sale to each event!

But...that's not all! With the support of a Lackawanna County Arts and Cultural Grant, which is a program of the Lackawanna County Commissioners and the Lackawanna County Council on the Arts, Education and Culture, each of these events will feature not only an evening musical performance but also an afternoon workshop. So, this is an especially incredible opportunity to get a very personal glimpse of these guitar masters doi

Hopefully, we'll see you on April 12th to help us show these musical guests a warm welcome. Be sure to stay for the "Meet and Greet" afterward so that we can say hello to you properly!

Until then - peace...really!
